Basic Function Performs, provides work direction for, and coordinates semi-technical and non-technical duties in connection with handling of clinical laboratory specimens and with decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware, hazardous waste, instruments and equipment. Scope Responsible for performing clinical Laboratory Aide work which includes but is not limited to, the collection of soiled glassware and equipment, decontamination by autoclaving of equipment used for infectious materials, washing and drying as appropriate routine/expensive laboratory glassware. Works in Clinical laboratories of Dhahran, Ras Tanura, Abqaiq, Al Hasa or Udhailiyah. Receives supervision from Senior Medical Technologist or other leaders. When assigned to smaller laboratories, such as Udhailiyah or Abqaiq, must perform Clinical Laboratory Aide duties. Principal Contacts Has frequent contact with technical staff and other employees in various laboratories in the Division during the pick-up of dirty glassware and equipment and the delivery of clean glassware and supplies. Has frequent contact with nursing personnel in the pick-up of laboratory specimens and the delivery of reports to the wards and clinics. Has frequent contact with Housekeeping, Supply Services and Nursing with a variety of odd jobs. Principal Duties Periodically inspects distilling apparatus and demineralizers to assure that adequate amounts of pure reagent-grade water are available. Performs quality control of pure reagent-grade water. Documents results. Every two weeks tests for residual detergent in glassware by spot checking different types of glassware using a dye solution. Documents results. Frequently observes autoclave temperature charts to ensure that proper decontamination is being met. Removes and files temperature chart each mo
ing. Replaces new temperature chart. Directs the disposal techniques of various laboratory specimens and glassware to ensure that standard procedures are being followed. Performs stool concentration techniques in Microbiology laboratory. Assures that proper safety precautions are being taken by those responsible for handling and dispensing formaldehyde and formalin. Filling slides and blocks in histology lab. Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested. Performs Specimen Processing Duties under close supervision of a qualified Laboratory Technologist. Does Infection Control Procedures including Bench-Top before and after each working day. Replenishes Laboratory Supplies and makes sure to arrange them in their proper order. Operates the Centrifuges according to the manufacturer or calibration standards. Dispatches STAT Lab Specimens to their corresponding performing section and documents time delivered. Receives and delivers routine samples to the different section at least on an hourly basis. Performs labelling and pouring of urine specimens in Urinalysis lab. Other if applicable: Comply with the applicable JHAH Safety rules and policies, standard precautions and maintain safe work practices at all times. Report injuries, spills, unsafe conditions, near misses and incidents immediately. Maintain knowledge of Safety requirements including Emergency Response actions, Fire Training, mandatory Safety courses, and participate in all required Safety drills. Education High School Certificate (12 years schooling) or equivalent is required. 2 years Diploma in medical technology is preferred. Experience A minimum of 3 years work experience in clinical laboratory work is required Certifications/Other requirements as applicable Must have a high degree of personal cleanliness and a professional manner towards patients. Will be required to adhere and monitor the adherence to strict medical decontamination standards to avoid exposure to disease and to odourous chemicals and specimens.
