Basic Function
The Pediatric Dentist is the primary and specialty oral care provider. He/she focuses on the oral health and unique needs of young people; infants, children and adolescents, including persons with special health care needs. The Pediatric dentist is conce
ed about child’s growth, development and total health care. The incumbent focuses on prevention, early detection and treatment of dental diseases, implement preventive dental health habits that keep a child free from dental, oral disease, and keep current on the latest advances in dentistry for children. The incumbent serves as a liaison and consultant to Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare and as the final authority within the Dental Services Division regarding the above matters.
Scope
The work is in the Dental Services Division of Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare and will be involved in the Pediatric dental needs of all Saudi Aramco and Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare dependents under 12 years of age, as well as other children eligible for treatment within Saudi Aramco guidelines. These services are presently provided by Pediatric dentists covering five dental clinics and the hospital and operating rooms in Dhahran. Functional supervision is minimal and comes from the Unit Head and Chief of Dental Services Division. Work hours are assigned to meet operational needs of the assigned area.
Principal Contacts
Daily contact with all levels of employees, their dependents and approved general public patients in conducting the duties as outlined below. Contact as necessary with the Chief of Dental Services, Unit Head of specialty, general dental staff and technical personnel to coordinate all functions of this specialty unit.
Contact with hospital personnel relating to in-patient services and operating room functions. Maintains contact with Pediatric Dental societies and organizations to ensure the continuing update of treatment methods, including all aspects of quality control and sedation techniques.
Principal Duties
Practice Pediatric dentistry by using the sum total of the diagnostic, remedial, interceptive and restorative services rendered to patients
Duties include:
A. Obtaining complete history from the patient and/or parents, including roentgenograms (radiographs), study models and space analysis (arch length) when necessary.
B. After obtaining a history, develop a treatment plan and present same to parents/patients to include financial obligations involved.
C. Presentation to be in Arabic when necessary. Treatment may include:
Amalgam restorations
Synthetic restorations
Stainless steel crowns
Interceptive Orthodontic procedures, fixed/removable space maintainers, lingual arches, cross bite correction.
Selected Oral Surgery procedures on children
Administration of sedative drugs, nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia, treatment under general anaesthesia.
Preventive dentistry instructions to include oral hygiene instructions and nutritional counseling.
Address the special needs and provide the best care possible to those patients with significant medical, physical, or mental disabilities.
Experience
Five years devoted solely to the study and/or practice of Pediatric Dentistry.
Other requirements as applicable
Excellent command of written and spoken English
Must be able to adjust to a group practice in an industrial setting.
Must demonstrate an ability to deal with a multi-national patient population.
