The Business Development Specialist (BDS) will work within the business development unit of the Industry Engagement and Partnerships (IEP) Office. BDS is responsible for attracting and retaining companies to engage with KAUST, utilizing the different offerings available to industry including, but not limited to, research collaboration projects, technology commercialization, KICP membership, KRTP tenancy, and student employment. Moreover, he/she will be responsible for developing a market map for targeted industries in alignment with KAUST areas of strength to systematically and strategically approach and engage companies with KAUST. The BDS will also participate in planning and executing key strategic enabling platforms to enhance the attraction efforts of companies to partner with KAUST.
Major Responsibilities
Create and build awareness of KAUST’s technologies and scientific capabilities among industry
Recruit local and inte
ational companies to become KICP members and/or engage with KAUST in various engagement venues
Study local industry landscape in sectors of interest using different data sources in order to identify major players, market needs, and potential collaborators.
Design collaboration models with different organizations based on understanding local market needs, organization’s plans, and KAUST offerings.
Profile local, regional and inte
ational companies to strategically target them for collaboration with KAUST
Manage long-term strategic partnerships with focusing on key accounts from industry (KICP and non-KICP) and select in-Kingdom entities
Attract companies to collaborate with KAUST faculty in the form of Sponsored Research Agreements
Attract companies from different sizes (large and SMEs) to establish R&D centers/offices in KRTP and build business cases for these companies
Attract companies to pilot and demonstrate technologies in KRTP and build business cases for these companies
Work closely with the KRTP team to ensure smooth tenancy process for companies that wish to have physical presence and/or pilot and demonstrate their technologies
Coordinate all tasks and processes pertaining to the establishment of sound business cases for potential KICP members and potential collaborators
Design customized offerings to collaborators and coordinate with relevant teams/departments for execution
In collaboration with the Technology Transfer, market KAUST technologies to industry for potential licensing, new products, scaling up, and/or creation of start-ups
Promote KAUST students within industry for job placements and inte
ship opportunities
Recommend enhancements to KAUST offerings to industry based on continuous interaction with companies
Prepare professional presentations for inte
al and exte
al stakeholders to propose collaboration opportunities and present key findings and decisions
Work on identifying and profiling key quasi-gove
ment entities that are relevant to KAUST offerings
Conduct due diligence to identify key regional and inte
ational conferences relevant to KAUST to participate in to showcase and promote KAUST’s research capabilitie
Plan for participation at key regional and inte
ational conferences, and develop concept papers accordingly to be shared with management for approval
Promote and explain KAUST offerings to different stakeholders within Saudi Arabia Innovation ecosystem
Prepare weekly and monthly updates on the Business Development’s major activities to be shared with BD Manger
Lead all efforts related to drafting contracts/MoUs with exte
al parties. This includes working with various departments within KAUST in addition to some exte
al parties
Provide support in planning and executing key strategic enabling platforms on and off-campus to enhance the attraction of companies.
Provide support and assistance in the planning and implementation of annual major IEP events
Perform other duties and assignments as assigned by the Manager

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of organizations
Good business acumen and basic understanding of regional industry landscape
Knowledge of office management principles and procedures
Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues
Ability to deal effectively with people at all levels both inside and outside KAUST
Ability to work under pressure
Self-starter and comfortable working in a team setting
Ability to prioritize tasks in an environment of continuously changing priorities
Fluency in reading, speaking and writing in English
Ability to deliver accurate, well presented work on time
Be an experienced user of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Required Education Graduate degree in Business and/or Science/Engineering with a background in Chemical Sciences or related fields
Required Experience
Five (5) to Seven (7) years of experience
Academic-industry partnership experience is a plus
Experience in Project Management, Business Development and Business Analysis
Work experience in a university environment is a plus
Inte
ational work experience is a plus
