The Assistant Consultant shall perform clinical duties under the direction and supervision of the consultant
staff. The Assistant Consultant shall in retu
supervise and coordinate to the clinical activities of the other
resident doctors in the specialty
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Consultant is second on call on duty and must available 24 hours on the duty day. After
finishing of the 24 hours duty he has to finish all admission problems and to do his rounds with
the consultant on call.
The emergency Nephrology cases are admitted under the consultant and the Assistant Consultant on duty
is responsible for providing the necessary treatment of the patient as the situation demands, including performing emergency hemodialysis, referring patient to other Assistant Consultant or to other hospitals. He has to write down his plan for management of the patient in the chart.
(Investigations for blood transmitted disease (hepatitis, HIV) are his responsibility.
The Assistant Consultant on duty will attend the consultation request of other department of the hospital as
well as mate
ity hospital. He may attend consultation request from other hospitals if directed
by the consultant or head of the department.
He has to arrange beds for patients waiting in ER for an emergency admission, to+ refer them
to bed management or social worker to take action if hasn’t got any. When a patient is seen
by him in ER that doesn’t mean this patient is his own unless admitted in his duty.
ER is under direct supervision of duty Assistant Consultant, he has to check any leftover cases at the start
of his duty. Refer any remaining cases at the end of it.
He is directly responsible to obtain enough empty beds, for his duty by having quick overview
of bed situation. If there no vacant beds, he should discharge patient who is fit to go home starting
by his own patient with coordination of unit head.
The Assistant Consultant on duty will remain responsible for the patients admitted in his duty till the patient discharged and will also follow him in the clinic. He will also readmit the patient for subsequent management if necessary as routine or emergency. The Assistant Consultant in-charge of the patient will
write medical reports if requested by relevant authority as per hospital rule.
The Assistant Consultant on duty will supervise, guide and instruct the resident either on duty or in the wards. He will help the Saudi and Arab Board trainee residents in clinical.
He should not allow resident on duty to leave hospital under any circumstances.
The Assistant Consultant will attend outpatient clinic as per schedule of the department and department and
see the follow up cases as well as new cases. He will supervise the residents in the clinic.
The Assistant Consultant will make daily rounds of his patient with the resident of the ward. He will plan
and prepare his patients for hemodialysis and discuss it with the consultant a proper informative note be written includes details about patient’s progress in the chart.
The Assistant Consultant will always join the group in the grand round and discuss in details his patients. Group opinion taking this during round should be respected.
The Assistant Consultant will attend the daily and weekly nephrology meeting, he will activity participate in the discussions, guide and assist the residents for proper presentation of his admitted cases.
The Assistant Consultant will observe the performance of the residents and take active part in their training.
He will take in symposium, seminars, nephrology club, and meeting in or outside hospital. He will represent the deportment in various committees as directed by the head of the department or consultant.
The Assistant Consultant will work under over all supervision of the consultant of the group.
The Assistant Consultant in-charge of the patient will be responsible for completion of the chart of the patient specially detailed discharge summary.
Assistant Consultant shall implement patient and family education policy in all admitted and OPD patient files.
Assistant Consultant shall actively participate in quality management issues as directed and assigned by head of department.
Skills
Fluent in verbal and written English.
Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Is knowledgeable of the Medical by-laws.
Knowledge of computer application.
Education
Must possess a basic medical degree with post graduate qualification in the speciality
