The consultant is the third on call at his home.When on duty, he is advised to be early available in hospital. The consultant will give guidance and assistance to the assistant consultant and residents for emergency. He will supervise the assistant consultant on duty and will help him as the situation demands. Patients are admitted under his name. If a patient is admitted on an urgent base while he is under other consultants or other group care, consultant on duty has to make immediate decision to take charge of the patient if required according to well-established scientific standards or to refer him coming day to his initial treating physician. A t the end of his 24 hours on call, the consultant will make hot round with the assistant consultant and resident for newly admitted emergency cases and will discuss the treatment plan, give clear instructions about the investigations required, plan of treatment, lime schedule for all procedures conce
ing patient.· He is the leader of Nephrology team assigned to interfere when disaster status is announced (code red). The consultant will make grand rounds once week ly with the whole group including resident, assistant consultant, and other medical staff of the ward, physiotherapist, and infection control group can attend i t too. He will supervise the work of specialist and residents. A part of his duty is clinic is to approve medical reports issued by his team. The consultant will attend sub-specialty clinic when assigned by the head of the department. He has to assess newly accredited doctors. The consultant will help train the Saudi Board and Arab Board residents. He supervises their daily work either in clinics or in emergency room. All their lectures and scientific activities are under his direct supervision. The consultant will organize and supervise the academic activities of the group and the department especially Nephrology club meeting held on monthly basis. He is asked to help actively in evaluating visitors and physician referred to our department just for evaluation. He will represent the department i n various s committees, symposiums, and seminars as directed by the Head of the Department. Beside his work as a consultant, he is also: l5.l Leads the group 15.2 Leads the Grand Rounds 15.3 Makes decision in critical cases Consultants shall supervise residents and specialists in implementation of patients and family education policy. Skills Fluent in verbal and written English. Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Is knowledgeable of the Medical by-laws. Knowledge of computer application. Education 1- Saudi Board or equivelant in the speciality. 2- Minimum 3 years of experience.
