The Center for Desert Agriculture’s System Administrator will support all aspects of bioinformatics analyses of genomic data. In particular the development and documentation of pipelines for data transfer, storage, processing and analysis. This technical role requires experience in bash scripting and programming skills in the most widely used languages in bioinformatics (i.e. Perl, Bash, Awk) as well as a strong background in bioinformatics and genomics. Competences in High Performance computing (HPC) and biological database design are highly appreciated.



Major Responsibilities

Software installation, analysis pipeline development for genomics data quality processing and analysis
Database development, design and maintenance
Efficiently interact with HPC cluster administration for a smooth ad effective installation of analysis software
Provide timely and useful assistance to laboratory users and to other staff members.
Maintain a respectful and collaborative working environment within the laboratory.
Review, prioritize, and process inquiries and trouble reports.
Provide initial user contact and support via telephone, walk-in, email, and ticketing system submissions for all types of inquiries.
Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art computer technology, equipment, and systems with emphasis on high performance computing.
Produce and maintain effective and thorough technical documentation.
Build effective relationships with staff, faculty and students through the Core Labs.
Perform, plan, and/or support software installation and management for the HPC systems within the Center
Understand high performance parallel filesystems (i.e. Lustre), and high-performance computing workload managers and schedulers (Slurm, PBS, LSF).
Perform a variety of assignments associated with the monitoring and controlling of the job submission on HPC systems, to include the installation and testing of bioinformatics software, and performing diagnostic tests as necessary.
Apply expert knowledge of Unix/Linux systems administration, including all aspects of management, monitoring, performance analysis, and integration in complex heterogeneous environments.
Act as point of contact for system related matters for laboratory users and staff.
Work flexible hours as needed.
Travel occasionally for training, presentations, conferences and collaborations.
Other duties as required.

Qualifications / Experience

Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline plus 5 years’ experience, OR

Master of Science (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline plus 2 years” experience.
